Urban Electric Bike – The New Eco Form Of Transport

The Electric Battery powered ebike is here…but should we be allowed to use it in our town or city?
Each country has it’s own set of regulations to control the electric bicycles use, some regulatory departments make it near impossible to utilise this important Eco form of transport without proper licensing.
In defence, as can be seen from the image, some of these electrically assisted pedal bicycles can support two riders, a driver and a pillion, this along with the high reported accident rates the regulations imposed in some countries are not entirely unexpected.

With the deteriorating condition of the urban environment, many supporters of the earth’s conservation are dubbing electric motor bikes as the new Eco form of transportation in urban areas.

The electric bike hybrid

An electrically assisted bicycle can look like any other ordinary bicycle, moped or scooter.
Some are hybrids of some or all of the above, with or without pedals.
Resulting in electric mopeds and electric scooters.

There are so many reasons why it is so much better compared to other traditional transportation, both economically and environmentally.
The electric motors used for the e-bike are battery powered, which saves up a lot on fuel expenses as well as promote fuel conservation.
Today, early 2011, with advanced technology the batteries are as environmental friendly as possible at this stage.
It is often the ion lithium type, and it does not require a lot of electricity to charge it.
Depending on use, an average battery of a bike only needs 300 charges for the span of 2 to 3 years, which allows users to travel up to 10,000 miles. These figures are average, of course, if your riding 4 or 5 hours a day, every day then more charges are necessary.
But you will have covered a lot more miles on your urban electric bike.

To help conserve energy even more, manufacturers are now coming out with solar powered battery motors for the bicycles.
This type are often pricier, but they are much more energy saving and efficient compared to any other forms of vehicles.
Compared to the traditional fuel powered vehicles, these electric bicycles do not produce or emit any dangerous byproducts or fumes which could risk not only damaging the environment, but a risk to human health as well.

While most developed countries are too egotistical to use them as a main form of transportation, most developing countries like China are using these bikes as a very effective form of transportation.
Besides China, another country smart enough to use urban electric bikes to play their part for the environment is Japan.
It is quite common to see adults in suits riding their bikes to work.

Compared to other traditional transportation, subject to the rules of your country and the regulations in place there may be no need of licenses, registrations, road tax and other liabilities.
However, it is best to check with your local authorities as each country will have a different set of rules regarding the legality of battery powered bikes.
There are many different forms of e bike.
While it might be legal to be used on roads for some countries, it could be illegal for another.

Nowadays, there are so many different types of electric motor powered bicycles, be sure to do your research and find out which is the most suitable type for you (and legal) before you purchase one.
A battery powered ebike could be the best choice for you if you want to go about daily errands exertion free, as well as play your part in the conservation of the environment.
